Health Care Assistant Program


This versatile program has been designed to allow graduates to take advantage of expanding career opportunities available throughout the healthcare system. This program consists of options which can be taken separately for individual certifications, or together as part of a complete program. Individual options are phlebotomy, nursing assistant, and electrocardiogram technician. Course admission is contingent upon results of caregiver criminal history screening, drug screen,  and ability to meet clinical requirements.

  • Clinical Requirements

    Please complete clinical requirements for nursing assistant, phlebotomy tech, electrocardiography tech, patient care tech, and medical assistant courses.  Requirements will need to be uploaded to www.certifiedprofile.com before the student can register for a clinical course.

  • Alzheimer's/Dementia Care (one semester - 3 credit hours)

This course is for specialized nursing assistants that provide personal care for clients with Alzheimer's or dementia in long-term care facilities or in private homes.  The course provides a basic understanding of the physical changes in memory, communication, function, and behaviors that occur as a result of the changes in the brain due to disease.  Students will learn appropriate intervention strategies to enhance the client's care.

  • Disabilities Support Services (one semester — 4 credit hours)

    Disabilities Support Staff are nursing assistants that provide direct care and support for persons with a wide range of disabilities, including developmental and age-related disabilities. This course helps those already employed in the field of support services to develop skills for job enhancement. Upon completion of this course, graduates are prepared for employment in residential, day habilitation, or vocational program of a community based provider agency.
